    Statement of Mission

    The Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS) Association strives to supply a supportive home, meeting place and information center for people suffering from ENS and for anyone else interested in this disability. Our primary mission is to increase medical and scientific awareness of the devastating impact of this disability on the lives of ENS sufferers, promoting the pressing need for a cure.

    Methods of action:

    1. Build a substantial member list of ENS sufferers and supporters via our registration form on the ENS Association Web site.
    2. Through various advertising methods, increase awareness of ENS among the public, as well as in the medical and scientific communities.
    3. Raise money for scientists interested in finding treatments that could significantly alleviate ENS symptoms.
    4. For those who suffer with ENS, provide up-to-date information and support regarding all aspects of the disorder.

    Who is at risk of developing ENS?

    The following is a short list of people who are at high risk of developing chronic obstructive turbinates resistant to drug therapy. This makes them potential ENS patients:

    Allergic Rhinitis (like hay fever); Asthma;

    Chronic Rhinitis; Chronic Sinusitis;

    Nasal Polyps; A Deviated Obstructing Septum;

    Hypertension;

    Hypothyroidism;

    Smokers;

    Chronic nasal decogestant users;

    People who have gone through radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.

    Also at risk:

    People who have had, or may in the future have cosmetic nasal surgery.

    People who play contact sports such as football, basketball, baseball, boxing, hockey, or marshal arts.

    Whenever a person has nasal surgery of any kind, he becomes a potential ENS patient.

    We Need Your Help!

    Modern medicine has transplanted hearts, livers and kidneys, but still can’t reconstruct the inner nose to full functionality. There are no suitable donor areas in the body that have the same kind of unique inner nasal mucosal tissue. Scientists have successfully engineered many different organ tissues in the human body, and the potential to engineer mucosal tissue is within reach, but because ENS threatens one’s quality of life, "only", and not one’s life itself, scientists have not given it the attention it warrants. By joining us, you can help ensure if you, or anyone close to you, are ever in need of inner nasal reconstruction, your doctors will have the ability to transplant functional inner nasal tissues that can save the quality of your life.

    Ways you can help:
    1) Join Us: Support our mission and become a member of the ENS Association by completing our online registration form. Registration is free and only takes a few moments.

    2) Increase Public Awareness of ENS: Tell your friends and acquaintances about ENS and this website. Discuss ENS with doctors and scientists. Inform the media.

    3) Donations: The Empty Nose Syndrome Association, Inc. is a non profit Association. Donations are necessary to finance our activities and future research grants. Monetary donations can be made through pay-pal by clicking the "donations" button on the menu bar. If you wish to donate in another way, please contact us to make arrangements.
